Taking influence from 80's post-punk, 4AD & Creation-era bands, Winter Gardens have developed their own 'dream-punk' sound, with all the ethereal haze of shoegaze & dream-pop combined with the energy of punk. Utilising drum loops, synthesizers, pianos & pads with the accompaniment of Ananda Howard’s celestial vocals, the band take the listener on a journey through an eclectic ray of disparate sounds - cascading jangly tones, thick Juno Synths, serene vocals & a pulsing groove glued together with a tempestuous energy. Think song-writing that pays homage to the soundscapes of Slowdive, the howling harmonies of Kate Bush, the pulse of Stereolab & the indie-dance feel of New Order.
Since the band’s inception, Winter Gardens have secured support slots for a number of high-profile names, including Modern English, Piroshka, Penelope Isles & Say Sue Me. In 2019, they joined the Rockaway Beach festival headlined by Gary Numan & Echo & The Bunnymen as well as combining with Seattle rock stalwarts Acid Tongue for a UK Tour.
The band’s debut EP, “Tapestry”, was released via austerity records in September 2020. The EP, including its self-produced music videos, received exceedingly positive press across the board including printed praise in Germany's 'VISIONS' magazine & being crowned BBC Introducing's 'Featured Act' & 'Pick Of The Year'.
